Not For Sale

This is kind of a comment or reply post - whatever you'd like to call it, to a post 'Yeh kia jagha hai doston' from my fellow blogger Kanwalful. Instead of posting my comment there at her post. I decided to create a seperate one here so that those of you who are not there, can comment here. I've been reading A LOT  about trafficking and forced prostitution lately. Just finished reading 'The dancing girls of lahore'  and it touched not only my heart but the core of my very soul. I then read some of the articles over internet and saw few documentaries.

This is a sad story; written every day through out the world. Trafficking and forced prostitution is not confined to any particular part of this world. Every day women are going through worst exploitation in the thriving Porno industry ; it is legal to Exploit and even spread perversion of the worst kind through every media including Internet. In this epic of exploitation girls/women are exploited by men & women both. Starting from East Europe to East Asia, sexual exploitation of minors are happening on the street, women are bought and sold on the road side. Every state , every society , every citizen of this world is responsible for this. Those who exploit and those who remain silent and let the trade go on , both are criminals. Including us of course.

It is common practice to call a Woman Sex Worker as Whore/ Slut / Randi / Veshsa but those people who forced them into this trade, those people who support this system by enjoying the exploit they are some one's Daddy / Baba / Abba / Bhaiya / Brother / Husband / Hubby / Shauhar.

According to a UN report about 4 million women and girls worldwide are bought and sold each year - either into prostitution or slavery. Approximately 1 million children enter the sex trade every year. As many as 50,000 women and children from Asia, primarily from subcontinent.

I can't believe we're free for 60 years and prositution is still flocking and I am sure 70 percent of them wouldn't be aware of sexually transmitted diseases or AIDS.It is a really sorry state of affairs. About the HIV awareness campaigns in pakistan, I think it's just cool to talk about HIV these days, sort of a wannabee thing, if you know what i mean? I wish that some of our celebrities start talking about food hygiene, TB and Hep. B&C vaccinations it would help a lot more people but I think that they don't understand the situation. I've seen Waseem Akram talk about diabetes and that was awesome. He's a brand ambassador for blood sugar monitors! Isn't that kool? If only our beloved stars would do more of these practical things instead of trying to talk about issues that don't concern us that much, we would be a healthier nation.

I'll give you an example of the degree of un-awareness in our rural areas: People don't want Polio vaccine for their children because they think it has infertility medicine in it!!

I've read and heard so much about all of it and over the time I've realized that at the end of the day no one really seems to think it's a priority. Many *red light* districts all over the world - they just seem to be *accepted* at this point it seems.

Anyone interested in this topic should watch the PBs documentary called "Born Into Brothels". I could not hold back my tears after watching this one. Check out the website: www.kids-with-cameras.org/bornintobrothels/

Why Don't They Know?

It happens, over and over again. In times of desperate need, the parts where you completely break down and cry with grief and fear...You don't find them around you. Them. All of THEM. Everyone who means so much to you. You would have thought that when God had created a phenomenon as beautiful as love, he'd also bother to create.. I don't know, maybe those weird, metaphysical connections between loved ones. So that when you suddenly started sobbing on a rainy day.. they'd somehow know.

It's just not fair. And it's retarded how it always happens. ALWAYS.

Has this ever happened to you?

Misconception

At first, it was frustrating.
Now, it's just plain amusing.
The smirk-and-shake-head-cynically-and-fondly type amusing.

For some goddamn reason,
you start thinking for a few moments that you have life figured out.
And then comes the slap. :)

Love in the Time of Cholera by Gabriel García Márquez

Gabriel Garcia Marquez's "Love in the Time of Cholera" is an epic love story of two people who first fall in love as children, separate, lead their separate lives and are brought back together at the end of their lives.

Probably my favorite book of all time. Every sentence takes your breath away. I found this title deeply moving and was completely taken with every moment of each character's life. I've read this book several times and each time ended with tears in my eyes. Marquez is a master of poetic fiction and this book is written in rich and beautiful prose. Even in an English translation, the language is musical, picturesque and poetic.

Love in the Time of Cholera is not a reading experience, it is a life experience. If you choose to read it, do so uninterrupted, slowly, and with great attention. You will be rewarded with a great love story of an ill-fated love between two members of a small town in South America, and the story of their courting, a courting that lasts for over half a century.

I've recently watched the movie too, they hardly do any justice when they convert a book into a movie, but it was pretty ok. To give anymore details would be cruel, just go ahead and read the book first then watch the movie, you'll know yourself ;)

Struck by Insomnia

Its so late at night, and I have no hint of sleep
I want to sleep, but I can't.

Maybe it's this computer, maybe not!
Maybe something else.
Maybe it's my wait for nothing that doesn't let me sleep.
But I want to sleep.

Wise wednesday

haiti

By now you've heard about the earthquake in Haiti, but have you seen the quotes that CNN is running across their homepage?  This one just caught me and broke my heart:

"Port-au-Prince is devastated, lots of deaths. SOS. SOS ... Temporary field hospital ... needs supplies, pain meds, bandages. Please help us."

I'm cancelling the post I had planned for today and asking you to help instead.  Melisa pointed out that most Haitians live on $2 a day, so your $5 could really do something.

Please donate to the Red CrossUNICEF (to help the children of Haiti) or Mercy Corps,

Please do whatever you can, anything at all.  Also, please consider using your blog today to encourage your readers to help.

Thoughtful Tuesday

New Moon

When I first watched Twilight, I thought it was shit.  Then two nights ago I watched New Moon and I thought it was shit, maybe even shittier. I mean, they probably made so much money off the first movie that they could have gotten a better director to push these so-called actors andactresses to act better.

Honestly, I didn't think the book was awesome either other than the story.  All the characters are too annoying and immature, I mean half the time, Bella has no idea what she wants and it clearly shows how girls are just lost in real life.  Jacob is just an immature boy who turns into a wolf and Edward is just kinda sissy.  The story was smart, making people think that humans can live with vampires and wolves and find love in between. But Taylor was really hot for a 17 year old boy and apparently put on 15 pounds for this role.

Anyway, I wouldn't recommend anyone this movie unless you want to see Taylor's abs cause it's the only part worth seeing.

The Way I See It # 1

"The best thing you can be in winter is warm."

How I feel

I'm down with cold, upset stomach, nausea, constant vomiting's, fever and weakness caused by all of it.
Adding to this misery, even the medicines don't suit me.
I hate it. I hate being sick. Well but who wouldn't?
I hope you all don't have to feel this way.

Have a great weekend !

Message for women putting up colours on Facebook

Please do us all a favour - if you want to put the colour up, mention a link to Breast Cancer Awareness - because you putting up your colour of bra does absolutely NOTHING to actually bring out awareness for Breast Cancer.

If you genuinely want to pass the information along, post a link or two - otherwise you putting up your Bra colour with no real reason seems stupid. Most of the people does not even know what is this all about.

I said it. Stupid.

It seems to devalue what Breast Cancer actually is - and you guys should make an effort to actually spread awareness since this "prank" has become viral.

Memories

Sometimes, nothing feels better than swimming into the pool of wonderful memories you've shared with different people at different stages of life. Most of them makes you laugh and sad at the same time, because you wish to live them again. The wonderful time spent with parents; schools first day; our first best friend, sharing lunch box with friends; eating in the class exactly in between the lectures; falling asleep during chemistry class; fighting over silly things, first with friends and then in no time fighting for them, with other; crushes and going crazy after them or Falling in love for the very first time. The list continues... Every other person leaves a memory in ones life, priceless memories.
But..
some of them are the ones we wish we never ever have had lived, Memories we regret making.

Kite Runner By Khaled Hosseini

There is only one sin, only one. And that is theft. Every other sin is a variation of theft. When you kill a man, you steal a life. You steal his wife’s right to a husband; rob his children of a father. When you tell a lie, you steal someone’s right to the truth. When you cheat, you steal the right to fairness. There is no act more wretched than stealing. A man who takes what’s not his to take, be it a life or a loaf of naan. I spit on such a man – The Kite Runner

"The Kite Runner" one of my fav. books tells a heartbreaking story of the unlikely friendship between Amir(a suni) and Hassan (a shia) One is a passionate reader..the other illiterate. This is one of those marvelous books that opens up our hearts and minds. This is a gritty book..the beauty and violence of this country...Afghanistan...comes to life..The customs and food and smells of the city...the desolation of life and the loss of the country to madmen who are running it with only their imagined vulgar needs and wealth in mind that destroys a culture so different and rich...I just couldn't stop reading this book the first time I read it. And so I'm reading it again.

From last few days, every time I logged in to my Facebook account I saw friends recommending an Indian movie over their status updates. It is normal for a couple of people to like the same movie, but almost around 12 friends actually 'loved' it. And that’s what made me finally watch, 3 IDIOTS. And no I've no intentions of writing a whole boring review about the movie and you dare not read any of the reviews over internet, go watch it yourself. Trust me; I'm not a movie person. So, when I'm saying it's worth a watch, it probably is.
It’s a movie adaptation of Chetan Bhagat’s Five Point Someone, a truly lighthearted and entertaining journey of three friends as they try to figure themselves out and share unforgettable experiences. 3 IDIOTS, starring three of my favorite Indian actors, Amir Khan, R. Madhvan, Kareena Kapoor and the third idiot Sharman Joshi. Three actors from the path-breaking RANG DE BASANTI team - team up yet again. It had to be a good movie. But I didn't expect it to be this good. It makes you weep and laugh, both at the same time.
Kareena Kapoor looks so very cute too! Simple yet beautiful. Her chemistry with Amir didn't go well but that’s something I can ignore, since it's not a romantic movie. Other than that, everyone gave their 200% performance
The music on the other hand was fun too. I loved 'Give Me Some Sunshine', 'Behti Hawa Sa Tha Woh', 'Zoobi Doobi' and 'Jaane Nahin Denge'
It’s a complete package! A must watch. Life is about listening to your heart and chasing your dreams, that's the essence of 3 IDIOTS. For further information, go watch !
